This started life as a Reference Lenco MKI, and was steadily upgraded over the years to a full Reference Lenco MKIII before finally being traded towards an Ultimate Lenco. The recipe for my Reference plinths has not changed over the years, after all it is proven, the only ‘tables in this relatively low price range which challenges the world’s best at any price. The materials chosen for the Reference plinth includes certain rare and very specific tonewoods, which, just like a guitar, becomes richer and “freer” (i.e. more dynamic and alive) with time. This one now sounds amazing, even as compared with a new Reference Lenco. It is built for two tonearms, a 12” tonearm on the right-hand side, and a 9” tonearm on the upper left. It has a natural ash surround with spalted elm top (i.e. resulting in fine black lines through the wood). It was originally built for a Brinkmann tonearm and a Triplanar, both now long gone. Any 12” tonearm can be mounted, and any 9” tonearm can be mounted to the upper left. Price new for such a ‘table would be $10,750 USD ($10,250 for the base price, plus $500 for the extra tonearm position). This one available for $8250 USD, a $2500 savings. A Reference Platter, which takes the Reference Line as far as it can go sonically (which is very very high) is also available at an additional $1500 USD with this ‘table only, regular price $2000, for a total of $3000 savings.
